Depression-Era Style Mosaic on Red Vinyl LP Earrings by Kalem Aguilar, Kewa

85.00

These turquoise mosaic on vinyl earrings are by the talented Kalem Aguilar. The use of vinyl LP for the backing is a call at the depression-era jewelry at Santo Domingo Pueblo when artists used whatever they had to keep the jewelry making tradition alive. Melted down bits of car parts, electrical wires, old LPs were commonly used in jewelry during that time. During the great depression, there was a freight train wreck near the pueblo and the train was carrying vinyl records that scattered, and they made use of that bounty in their own way.

These earrings measure approximately 2” long and 1/2” wide.
